About WEC India
WEC India, the
Indian Member Committee of the World Energy Council, is a
unique platform for synergizing the energy sector in the
country having patronage of minister of power and support of
all energy sector ministries. Leading energy sector
organisations and eminent energy professionals are our
members. The Indian Member Committee of the World Energy
Council was earlier being represented by the Institution of
Engineers (India). However, in view of the strategic
importance of the energy sector and the significant changes
that have taken place in the energy sector, the Indian
Member Committee was reconstituted in May 1999 by the Govt.
of India, Ministry of Power with an objective of making it a
body truly and functionally representative of the Energy
Sector in India with Hon'ble Union Minister of Power as the
Patron and Secretary (MOP) as the Chairman of the WEC India.
WEC India has been registered as a non-profit organization
under Societies Registration Act 1860.
Indian Member Committee – Founder Members
Indian Member Committee of World Energy Council (WEC-IMC)
was constituted on 13th May 1999 by ministerial order No.
28/11/98-coord, Government of India, Ministry of Power.
WEC-IMC was constituted as a body to make it truly and
functionally representative of the Energy Sector in India.
More members were added to the WEC-IMC vide ministerial
order No. 28/11/98 dt. 20th September 1999 and order no.
2/78/2001- P&P dt. 29th April 2002. In the AGBM held on 27th
September, 2012, it has been decided to rename WEC-IMC as
WEC India (World Energy Council, India) with a
vision “To be the foremost Energy Think-tank in the
Country and the voice of Energy Sector”.
